10 Things to Buy at the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale

Hi Dolls! If you are a beauty addict like yours truly, you are beyond excited for the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale beginning today, August 24th and running through September 3rd.

If you’re not familiar, and I can’t imagine you wouldn’t be, Sephora VIB Rouge Members have early exclusive access to the sale beginning today, August 24th, with 20 percent off in stores and online using the code YESROUGE. VIB Members can begin taking advantage of the sale on August 30th with 15 percent off in stores and online using the code YESVIB. Beauty Insiders can also begin taking advantage of all the beauty goodness on the same day and receive 10 percent off using the code YESINSIDER.

But enough with the formalities. Peep the deets below for my recommendations on the 10 things to buy at the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale.

I always start with my go-to, can’t live without products. For me there are two – Anastasia Brow Wiz and Makeup Forever Pro Finish Multi-Use Powder.

In the world of natural, yet sculpted eye brows, there is no better pencil. My color is Soft Brown, but Anastasia has a wide range of hues – from blonde to those with the darkest of tresses.

For years I used a different face powder, but a mini-makeup over in Sephora made me an instant Makeup Forever brand loyalist. The sell for me was that it gives you full coverage over your liquid foundation; but is still light enough to be worn by itself during warm months. A light dusting is perfect for days when you skip the liquid foundation and want a more natural look.

I always load my cart with my favorite skincare during the Beauty Insider Sale and lately I have been obsessed with Asian beauty lines, especially SK-ll. The signature and award winning Facial Treatment Essence, with Pitera, will forever hold a place in my skincare rotation. This face cocktail is great for minimizing hyperpigmentation and fine lines, improving texture and brightness.

The Vitamin C Duo is everything for brightening, moisturizing and repairing. I use it as a part of my morning skincare regime.  And as a bonus, the scent is everything.

My evening routine also includes Miss Riley. The Power Couple Kit with Good Genes, Luna Sleeping Oil, coupled with Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water work overtime while you sleep to brighten, refine, plump, moisturizer and even skin tone. The true definition of beauty sleep. Yep, all of that!

Do you mask? No! You should. Sephora has a mask for every skin type and ailment. I swear by the Primary Raw DoYou 2 Step Milk Peeling Kit. This lactic acid based sheet mask and oversized exfoliating swab helps with exfoliation, brightening and minimizing pores. I love anything that has a little tingle, and DoYou definitely does.

A Doll suffers from under eye puffiness, but has recently discovered facial rollers. I have two from The Body Shop, that I keep refrigerated. The coolness of the the metal really helps to reduce the puffiness. However, I’ve heard that Jade facial rollers work best. This will be a new purchase for me, so I will let you know what I think.

Don’t forget your palettes! I never miss an opportunity to pick up my day and evening eyeshadow palettes. For day, I love the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics, featuring six matte neutrals. In the evening, I create a smokey eye with Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Glimmer Contour Palette with shades of porcelain, copper, bronze, and sterling.

I’m also thinking about picking up a few fragrances, and I’m sure some other goodies will make their way into my basket. What about you? Drop a comment below letting me know what you’re picking up at the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale.

The Beauty Experiment

My guilty pleasure is beauty products – skin + body care, make-up, fragrances, nail polish – I’m in! My recent obsession has been on creating the perfect skin care routine. Ok not recent, this has been an ongoing quest. My skin is not bad, but could be better – hyper-pigmentation be damned! I’ve tried all types of creams, potions and lotions, everything from Prescriptives to La Prarie. On a recent jaunt to Sephora, for an angled eyeliner brush, I spied an end-cap of face and eye masks, something for every skin malady. My choice, the Perfecting & Brightening Pearl Mask in the pretty pink packaging. You should know that I am also drawn to packaging, the more minimal the better. A lot of products come home with me because of the packaging, but I digress.

Sephora Pearl Mask_052815

It was a week or so before I made time to try the mask. Honestly, I was somewhat leery, but let me say, I had a change of heart. Wednesday was a free night, perfect for a “pretty party.” I carefully read and followed the directions. Unfold the mask – check; apply the mask to a clean and dry face – check; and after 15 minutes remove the mask and gently massage, allowing the product to penetrate the skin, no need to rinse – check.

My first concern was that the mask would be flimsy, meaning that it would tear while trying to remove from the packaging; but nope, it’s made of fiber, no tears. It was also easy to apply, and covered the entire surface of my face with a little extra mask for under my chin. I have to say that I looked like The Mummy, but that’s the price of beauty. You can find a pic on Sephora’s Beauty Board, I don’t want to scare you away.

But what I loved that most is that you could “feel” the ingredients working – natural origin white pearl, which is said to even out skin tone, and broccoli extract for clarifying. Personally, I like to feel a little tingle in my products. There was also a cooling/soothing sensation. Once I removed the mask there was product left on my face which, following the directions, I massaged into my skin. I immediately looked in the mirror and my skin looked healthier and brighter (glowing) – pores significantly smaller. Now I’m no fool and know that bathroom lighting is not true lighting. But since it was not yet dark on the East Coast, I took my hand mirror outside on the deck to take a look, still pleased.

The very next morning I awoke and went to the mirror to see if I was still pleased with the results, and yep. Is my skin cured of its ails? Of course not. But, 48 hours in am I still pleased? Yes. I will certainly add this to my weekly skin care routine. And by the way, the price point is $6.00. Yesterday, did a supermarket sweep through Sephora and picked up the companion Perfecting & Brightening Eye Mask. I will post a follow up review on the eye mask in the next week or so.

This is only one of several face masks available at Sephora. Peep the selection here – Sephora Face Masks.

Do you mask? If so, leave a comment and share your experience.

The Hiatus is Over! 50 Shades of Red … The Recap

Hey Dolls!

You thought I forgot, didn’t you? Of course not; but I did take a much needed summer detour. The hiatus is over, so let me give you a quick recap of 50 Shades of Red, Vols. I – VI.

The Recap_v3

50 Shades of Red … Vol. I

The Shade: Rouge Coco Shine “Dialogue,” with Framboise Precision Lip Definer, and Levres Scintillantes Glossimer 04, all compliments of Chanel. I could never fully commit to the color ~ just too much pink/magenta undertone. I would probably rock the gloss sans lipstick. red lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in white

50 Shades of Red … Vol. II

The Shade: L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick in “Target” Red ~ ironically a quick purchase from said Target ~ with a MAC Lip Pencil in Brick. “Target Red” is the perfect shade of red, and lasts “foreva.” It has somewhat of a matte finish, which I love, but my lips still retained their moisture. red lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in white

50 Shades of Red … Vol. III

The Shade: MAC DIVA, with its complimentary Currant Lip Pencil. Very severe. In the tube, it was a beautifully rich, deep burgundy, but it played really harsh on me; needed frequent reapplication, and the liner was a bit too dark. red lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in white

50 Shades of Red … Vol. IV

The Shade: Gloss Mirior ~ Extreme by Sephora in Femme Fatale. I’m not a gloss girl, but I love everything about Gloss Mirior ~ Extreme by Sephora in Femme Fatale. This little number is a top contender for my fav red lipstick.red lips isolated in white red lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in white

50 Shades of Red … Vol. V

The Shade: ZuZu Luxe Vino de Amor Lipstick. There’s nothing about Vino de Amor Lipstick I don’t like. The color – check; long wearing and moist – check, check; the ability to wear it without lip liner (something I rarely do) check, check, check! red lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in white

50 Shades of Red … Vol. VI

The Shade: Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss. Tried to like it, but didn’t. It was extremely transparent and required a lot of reapplication. It also felt very gritty. Nope! red lips isolated in white

Le Confession
I traveled to La Posoda Resort & Spa mid-May disappointed by my experience with my Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick a la Ms. Moss, yet still committed to following through with 50 Shades of Red … Vol. VII. The highlight of my trip was going to be spending time with friends, as well as my Mother and Aunt Mary Kay, both of whom are of the world of Grande Dolls. These women are always dolled up. It doesn’t matter where they are going – ensemble, hair and makeup are always just right! As we shopped, ate, and chatted, Aunt Mary Kay pulled out a tube of the prettiest pink lipstick. It was gorgeous and matched her perfectly glowing tan complexion. I had to have it. GASP! But, what to do, what to do? Could I abandon 50 Shades and the disappointment from Ms. Moss, make myself happy and ask Aunt Mary Kay the details of this beauty? You know where I’m going, I did the latter, and for the past several months have been wearing Make Me Pink Lipstick 135 by Maybelline. You heard me right, Maybelline! (Clutch the pearls!) I’ve never received so many complements. I love the color, texture, it’s moisturizing, long-lasting and looks good with a tan. On a scale of 0 to 5, I give it 5 pink lips! But a commitment is a commitment. Here’s where we are. Make Me Pink Lipstick is being retired today! After all, Summer is almost gone and we can now return to our regularly scheduled program with the Bobbi Brown Red Alert Edition of 50 Shades of Red … Vol. VII. Yep, I’m trying all four!

50 Shades of Red … Volume V.

Dolls, did you think I forgot? I didn’t! Business and personal travel has left little time for blogging; but never fear, I remain committed to 50 Shades of Red.

Volume IV. found me in Sephora with a tube of Gloss Mirior ~ Extreme by Sephora in Femme Fatale in hand. Simply put, J’adore! On a scale of 1 to 5, I give this 5 red lips! red lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in whitered lips isolated in white

As I shared, I’m not a gloss girl, but I love everything about Gloss Mirior ~ Extreme by Sephora in Femme Fatale. It’s super moist, without being sticky. I didn’t have to reapply very often, and the gold flecks are to die for – just the right amount to be appropriate for the office, while able to take you into an evening soiree. This little number is a top contender for my fav red lipstick.

What’s next? ZuZu Luxe Vino de Amor Lipstick. I love that name, don’t you?! Anywho, on a recent trip to Whole Foods Market I made my way to the makeup and skin care section for some playtime. I couldn’t resist leaving without a new tube of red lipstick and selected Vino de Amor. They had me at the name.

VinoDeAmor

ZuZu Luxe is part of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc., and is Gluten-Free and Vegan  – pretty with purpose. I love it. I’ll let you know in the next edition of 50 Shades of Red how this rates.

The Must-Haves: The “eyePad!”

must-have \ˈməst-ˌhav\n

1. an essential possession: the SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE The Eye: Radiant Femme Artistry Set is the must-have for every Pretty Domestic Doll

adj

2. essential: a must-have for your makeup kit

Ok Dolls, a little something about me. I’m always in search of a product, some type of makeup, and/or fragrance. Not necessarily what’s on trend, but what I like. Last month I decided that I needed a new eye shadow palette. I searched online and ventured to my normal beauty haunts, but to no avail. I gravitate to neutrals, but wanted to try something a little different. However, I’m “une femme d’un certain age,” and can’t walk around looking like The Joker.

Some free time on Thursday evening led me into Sephora and as soon as I entered, “ta-da,” my new eye shadow palette – +PANTONE UNIVERSE The Eye: Radiant Femme Artistry Set!

As you know, Radiant Orchid is the Pantone Color of the Year 2014, and is simply one word, pretty.

Blog-pantone-color-of-the-year-2014

In addition to Radiant Orchid being centered prominently on the palette, there are 24 other beautifully rich colors that will match your mood or #ootd you are rocking.

sephora radiant orchid

But, the genius of this set, the case! It’s slim and light and resembles the iPad Air. Of course the case color is Radiant Orchid. I’ve coined it, “The eyePad!” You can easily slide the case in your tote without adding bulk, and voila, have makeup will travel.

sephora-pantone-universe-radiant-orchid-collection-2

I am on travel next week for business and pleasure, and so look forward to having all my eye shadows with me in one stylish case.

Sephora and Pantone created sevaral other items in the SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Collection SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE The Face: Radiant Femme Artistry Set, SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Gaze Brush Set, SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Nail Ambrosia Trio, and SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Radiant Rush Matte Lipstick.

Described as “petal soft or vividly intense, this limited edition collection provides a modern feminine jolt for eyes, lips, cheeks and nails.” You need this in your life for your radiantly beautiful self this spring.

50 Shades of Red … Vol. 4

I know Dolls, I know. I’m four days late; but trust me, as promised, I’ve transitioned to a new shade of red for Vol. 4 of 50 Shades of Red.

To recap, last month I went for a “dark days of winter” look by rocking MAC DIVA, with its complimentary Currant Lip Pencil.

vol-3

I tried to like it, I really did; but it was very severe. In the tube, it was a beautifully rich, deep burgundy, but it played really harsh on me; needed frequent reapplication, and the liner was a bit too dark. It could also be that I changed by hair style at the beginning of the year. It’s my feeling that this shade should be reserved for a sleek more polished look. I’ve been wearing natural curls. On the other hand, my husband loved it. Hmmm … Anywho, moving on.

It’s a new month and a new red. I’m not a gloss girl, but until March 17th I’ll be sporting Gloss Mirior ~ Extreme by Sephora in Femme Fatale. I picked up this little number one day for $7.00 as I was passing through. It’s super glossy, with a subtle hint of gold sparkle. We’ll see what the next month brings.
