My 2020 Gift List … The Home Edition

Hey Dolls! Happy Holidays! This year, gift shopping and giving is challenged by the need to social distance, wear a mask, and simply keep ourselves, loved ones, and even those we don’t know safe and healthy. While online shopping has been de rigueur for as long as we can remember, this year it just may be lifesaving. That’s my plan. As much as possible, I’m staying clear of malls and boutiques, pouring a glass of bubbly, and shopping online. Peep my curated 2020 gift list below. First up, the home edition. Happy shopping!

It Must Be Christmas!

But It’s Not Thanksgiving Yet!!

Hey Dolls! I know, I know, we haven’t even enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner, and yet, the Christmas and Hanukkah are knocking at the door. There’s tons of holiday prep that occurs this time of the year; but at the top of my list is finding and ordering the perfect holiday cards. Lord knows I need to start early, because they take forever to address, stamp and mail.  (Yep, I am still a snail mail girl!) That said, I wanted to share several sites where I’ve had success in ordering the most festive of cards. Peep the deets.

Effie’s Paper. Effie’s paper is the creative brainchild of the über stylish Kalyn Johnson. My favorite paperie, Effie’s Paper has the swankiest of all “modern stationery and gift products for moms, busy professionals and social butterflies.” Effie’s also has the hippest holiday cards.

Papyrus. Papyrus does individual cards, boxed sets and custom printing. They are my “go-to” paperie for an any ocassion card.

tinyprints. This online retailer has cornered the holiday photo card market. Whether you’re into showing off your fab fam with one photo or six, or if want to wish your clients a happy holidays by gifting them with a 2016 card/calendar, you name it, they  have it. But what do I like best about Tiny Prints? They have a huge selection of glitter holiday cards. A Doll loves her sparkle.

Ok Dolls, this fab gift was brought to my attention by my wonderful Step-Mother! It’s the Harper Connect Bag by Diane Von Furstenberg. What make this bag so “haute” you ask? Well, not only is it stylish, it’s practical because the back side holds an iPad! Sounds too bulky and utilitarian to be fly; but trust me its super cute.

I’m not normally a fan of shoulder bags, and have traditionally been a tote or top handle girl, but I would definitely carry this bag. I think it’s the perfect gift for the tech savvy Mom.

Day 22 & Counting …

If you are like me, invariably someone in your family will give you gloves for Christmas. I have enough practical gloves to keep my hands warm until the end of days. What I don’t have enough of are fashion gloves. You know, those that add that extra umph to your outfit, but don’t serve as hand warmers.

Here are some tres chic glove gift options.

These gold Intrecciato Leather Gloves from Bottega Veneta are to die for! They only have limited sizes remaining; but if you are lucky, you can get the size of your intended gift recipient on Net-a-Porter.

You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sundays …

The holiday social season is in full swing, and nothing says a holiday soiree like Eggnog. Not just any recipe will do. The best Eggnog recipes have a little kick.

Ingredients

  • 12 eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 cups superfine sugar
  • 1 quart whole milk
  • 1 1/2 quarts heavy cream
  • 3 cups bourbon
  • 1/2 cup dark rum
  • 2 cups cognac
  • Freshly grated nutmeg

Directions: In a very large bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and pale yellow. Gradually add sugar to yolks. With a wire whisk, beat in milk and 1 quart cream. Add bourbon, rum, and cognac, stirring constantly.

Just before serving, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into mixture. Whip remaining 1/2 quart heavy cream until stiff, and fold in. Sprinkle with nutmeg and add a festive cinnamon stick. Yields 26

Lest you think I’ve forgotten about the Pretty Domestic “Countdown to Christmas” gift suggestions, I haven’t. This whirlwind of a weekend has me a little behind. To pick up where we left off, here are my suggestions for “Days 25, 24, 23 and Counting …”

Ok Dolls, today’s gift suggestion is a fragrance selection ~ Bond No. 9 New York. I’ve seen the bottle, but wasn’t familiar with the scent. After viewing an Instragram post earlier this week from über beauty blogger @thisthatbeauty, I dashed out and took a spritz of several of the scents! Love it; and it is now on my wish list!

It’s post Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but for many of us there is still more shopping to do. A gift that I like to give and receive is a beautiful coffee table book about a subject of interest. As I have accumulated a collection over the years, I change which ones are displayed in different rooms of my home.

For example, your fashionista friend and lover of all things beautiful will enjoy The Hermes Scarf: History & Mystique from Barnes and Noble.
