You are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday!

Hey, Dolls! Happy Sunday! I’m so excited to bring you a little Champagne Sunday lifestyle hack. We’ve all been there, particularly during the quarantine. The bar cart is insufficiently stocked, what’s available is somewhat random and you can’t seem to figure out how the randomness will make for the perfect late afternoon/evening cocktail. Enter, Make Me a Cocktail. Peep the details below.

Make Me a Cocktail is an online platform that allows you to enter the ingredients you have on hand (spirits, liqueurs, wines and champagnes, beers and ciders, mixers, etc.), select the ingredients you want to see and then have a cocktail recipe recommended to you.

Of course, I put it to the test. To my online bar cart I added Brandy, Cognac, Bourbon, Whiskey, Vodka, Creme de Violette, Chambord, Cava, Champagne, Prosecco, Rose, Chardonnay, and Bitters. I then selected “Make Me a Cocktail” and voila – seven cocktails from which to select – Champagne + Chambord, The Royal, Cognac Pick Me Up, Threesome, Kickin’ Chicken, Brandy Pick Me Up, and the Late Night. Oh, the choices!

But of course, it’s Champagne Sunday, so I opted for the The Royal. Peep the oh so simple ingredients and mixology below.

Serve, sip + enjoy!

When the Mr. comes from the golf course, I’ll have him try the Brandy Pick Me Up.

The Ingredients |

  • One shot of your favorite brandy
  • Your favorite champagne

The Mixology | Shake brandy and crushed ice together (3-4 ice cubes crushed) then pour into tumbler and top up with champagne.

Another online platform that my bestie KMG share with me is Drizly. So, your bar cart isn’t stocked enough to even use Make Me a Cocktail or you just don’t have time, head over to Drizly and your libations are on your doorstep in under an hour.

What are some of your favorite lifestyle tips and hacks? Leave a comment below.

Until then, keep sharing the pretty,

Hey Dolls! It’s summer and sweltering. What better way to cool during afternoons and evenings than with two summer staples – champagne + ice cream! Enter the Champagne + Raspberry Ice Cream Float. Peep the mixology below.

Champagne + Raspberry Ice Cream Float

The Ingredients |

Floats:

  • 750 ml (1 bottle) your favorite champagne or prosecco
  • 1 pint vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream

Raspberry Sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add raspberries and sugar. Stir and mash the raspberries with the back of a spoon until broken up and the raspberries have released their juices. Once the mixture is mostly smooth, remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Constructing the Floats. Add a couple spoonfuls of raspberry sauce to the bottom of each champagne flute, followed by a couple small scoops of vanilla ice cream on top of the sauce. Top off each champagne flute with champagne, fresh raspberries and a drizzle of raspberry sauce. Serve, sip + enjoy!

You are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday …

Hey Dolls! Happy Sunday! The “Bomb Cyclone” has turned the Eastern Seaboard in the frozen tundra. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time it was this cold; and it is unrelenting. It’s 4, yes 4 degrees as I post! The last thing I want to think about is sipping on anything cold. I know that Champagne Sundays are reserved for some type of cocktail with bubbles, but given the weather, we need a little something to warm the spirit. Today, we’ll be sipping on Mulled Wine. Peep the mixology below.

Mulled-Wine-41

Mulled Wine

The Ingredients |

  • 1 large Orange
  • 2 Cardamon Pods
  • 6 Whole Cloves
  • 6 Allspice Berries
  • 6 Whole Black Peppercorns
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick (plus 4 for garnish – optional)
  • Star Anise for Garnish
  • 1 Bottle (3 cups) Fruity Red Wine
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Brandy

The Mixology | With a fine grater, zest, then juice the orange.

With the flat side of a knife, press firmly on the cardamom pods to bruise them. In a large pot (not aluminum), combine zest, juice, cardamom, cloves, allspice, peppercorns, cinnamon, wine, sugar, and brandy. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves, 1 to 2 minutes.

Reduce heat to low; simmer until flavors have melded, about 30 minutes. Pour through a fine-mesh sieve; garnish with cinnamon stick and star anise, if desired. Serve immediately, stay warm and enjoy!

If you want to make your home smell good all day, try this simple Mulled Wine Slow Cooker recipe from Delish.com.

Ingredients.

Cider Honey Syrup.

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup orange juice

The-Harvest-Sparkle-Fed-Fit-3

Large Batch/Pitcher (Serves 18)

  • 2 1/4 cups whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 1/2 cups of the cider honey syrup (entire batch)
  • 2 1/4 cups prosecco, champagne, or sparkling white wine
  • 9 sprigs of rosemary

Single Cocktail

  • 1 ounce whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon cider honey syrup
  • 1 ounce prosecco, champagne, or sparkling white wine (or enough to top off the glass)
  • 1/2 sprig of rosemary

The Mixology. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk the honey, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and orange juice together until it starts to bubble. Remove from heat and let it cool for 5 minutes.

In a pitcher or shaker, mix the honey syrup and whiskey together with a good amount of ice so that it is completely chilled. Strain into a different pitcher or serving glass. (Note: caution that you don’t let the honey and whiskey mixture sit in the ice for too long so that it doesn’t get watered down.)

Keep refrigerated.

Just before serving, add Champagne or Prosecco to top off the glass and garnish with a ½ sprig of rosemary. Serve and enjoy!

Until then, keep sharing the pretty,

You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday …

Hey Dolls! Welcome to Champagne Sunday! Just a heads up that not every recipe contains Champagne. CS is just a reminder to celebrate successes from the previous week, while looking toward the promise of the upcoming week.

Since the 4th of July is three days away and we’ll all be grilling, I thought it appropriate to bring a cocktail to you that incorporates use of the grill – Grilled Citrus and Grapes Sangria. Sound yummy, yes?! Peep the mixology below.

Ingredients |

  • 3 cups stemmed seedless red grapes
  • 2 oranges, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch wheels
  • 2 lemons, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch wheels
  • Two 750-milliliter bottles rosé
  • 8 ounces simple syrup (see note)
  • 8 ounces brandy
  • Ice

The Mixology | Light a hardwood charcoal fire. Put the grapes on a perforated grill sheet or in a grill basket and grill over high heat, tossing occasionally, until they just start to burst, about 6 minutes. Transfer the grapes to a plate to cool completely.

Meanwhile, grill the orange and lemon wheels over high heat, turning once, until lightly charred, about 6 minutes. Transfer to a plate to cool completely.

In a large pitcher, combine the wine with the simple syrup, brandy and grilled fruit and stir well. Refrigerate until the sangria is chilled and the flavors are blended, at least 1 hour and up to 8 hours. Serve the sangria over ice.

Notes To make simple syrup, combine equal amounts of sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil; simmer, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat and let cool completely. The simple syrup can be refrigerated in a glass jar for up to 1 month.

Serve and enjoy! Chin, Chin!

Until then, keep sharing the pretty,

You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday!

Hi Dolls! Has it been that long? I know, I know it really has. I’ve had quite a few life changes that have required my immediate attention, most pressingly, nurturing a new entrepreneurial effort. I’ve also spent a great deal of time thinking about changes and updates I’d like to bring to The Pretty Domestic. Stay tuned!

In the mean time, I confess to truly missing my Dolls. So, until I share the deets re: The Pretty Domestic 2.0, let’s get back to business. It’s Sunday, and you know what that means, “You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday,” the Fourth of July Edition! Peep the mixology below for some patriotic cocktails fit for the perfect holiday soiree. Whether you are going to an epic pool party, spending the day at the club, or grilling at home for family and friends, a Doll has you covered. Peep the mixology!

Fourth of July Wine Sparklers

wine sparklers

Ingredients

  • 2 cups watermelon stars
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 bottle chilled dry white wine such as Fumé Blanc, Chenin Blanc, or Vinho Verde
  • 1 liter chilled lemon lime soda, such as a SodaStream mix, Sprite or 7UP

The Mixology. Place the watermelon stars and blueberries in the bottom of a 1-gallon pitcher. Pour in the white wine and soda, and gently mix to combine. Serve with a few fruit pieces in each cup.

Star Spangled Martini

Star Spangled Martini

Ingredients

  • 4-5 muddled raspberries
  • 2 oz {1½ shots} of citrus vodka
  • ½ oz of lemonade
  • 1 oz blue curacao
  • For Rim: Granulated sugar

The Mixology. Dip the rim of a martini glass in a shallow dish of water, then into granulated sugar to create the sparkly rim. Carefully muddle the raspberries in the glass, crushing until broken down. {Alternatively, you can do this in a sturdier glass and transfer the raspberries over to the martini glass with a spoon.} In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine citrus vodka and lemonade. Shake until frosty and pour over raspberries. Hold a spoon upside down over the glass close to the liquid. Carefully and slowly pour chilled blue curacao over the back of the spoon. It should create a separate layer on top of the vodka. Serve immediately.

Patriotic Gin + Tonic

Patriotic Gin and Tonic

Ingredients

  • 2 Shots Gin
  • Tonic
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Water

The Mixology. Place blueberries and raspberries ice cube tray, keeping them separate. Use 3-5 blueberries and 1-2 raspberries per ice cube depending on the size of your ice cube tray. Fill ice cube tray with water and freeze. Once frozen, place ice cubes in glass layering the blueberry cubes at the bottom and the raspberry cubes on top. Use about 3 of each type of ice cube per glass, this may vary based on the size of your glass. Pour gin over ice. Fill glass the rest of the water with tonic.

Uncle Samgria

xRed-White-and-Blue-Sangria-Picture.jpg.pagespeed.ic.aUhJsV0Son

Ingredients

  • one bottle of Chardonnay
  • one bottle of sweet, fruity wine (we used a strawberry wine)
  • two cans of Sprite Zero
  • blueberries
  • raspberries

The Mixology. At least two hours in advance of the soiree, combine the two bottles of white wine in a pitcher. Add your desired amount of fruit. I prepared our sangria six hours before the party, and I used a fruit infusion pitcher to create a striped effect with the blueberries and raspberries. Let the sangria chill in the fridge. Right before serving, add the two cold cans of Sprite Zero. Pour yourself a tall glass and enjoy!

For an extra dash of patriotism, rim your cocktails with red, white or blue sugar.
