You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday …

Good morning Dolls! Yesterday, one of my most fabulous girlfriend’s, Michele J., hosted Dolls for an afternoon luncheon at her beautiful home. Not that we needed a reason to get together, but we had much to celebrate – two new jobs, a wedding, a daughter’s wedding, election into an organization’s office. From her home, the meal, and gift bags, everything was perfectly appointed.

Once we finished our meal, Doll Michele shared that she had a treat for us. And did she! Champagne Popsicles! When I say they were everything! Words cannot describe! When I arrived home last night, I immediately texted to asked her for the recipe and could I share for Champagne Sunday! Of course she said yes. Peep the mixology below for Champagne Popsicles!

Doll Michele’s Champagne Popsicles

I so enjoyed my popsicle, I forgot to take a picture of how pretty they were outside of the mold. Pretty and absolutely tasty!

You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday …

Hey Dolls! Welcome to Champagne Sunday! Just a heads up that not every recipe contains Champagne. CS is just a reminder to celebrate successes from the previous week, while looking toward the promise of the upcoming week.

Since the 4th of July is three days away and we’ll all be grilling, I thought it appropriate to bring a cocktail to you that incorporates use of the grill – Grilled Citrus and Grapes Sangria. Sound yummy, yes?! Peep the mixology below.

Ingredients |

  • 3 cups stemmed seedless red grapes
  • 2 oranges, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch wheels
  • 2 lemons, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch wheels
  • Two 750-milliliter bottles rosé
  • 8 ounces simple syrup (see note)
  • 8 ounces brandy
  • Ice

The Mixology | Light a hardwood charcoal fire. Put the grapes on a perforated grill sheet or in a grill basket and grill over high heat, tossing occasionally, until they just start to burst, about 6 minutes. Transfer the grapes to a plate to cool completely.

Meanwhile, grill the orange and lemon wheels over high heat, turning once, until lightly charred, about 6 minutes. Transfer to a plate to cool completely.

In a large pitcher, combine the wine with the simple syrup, brandy and grilled fruit and stir well. Refrigerate until the sangria is chilled and the flavors are blended, at least 1 hour and up to 8 hours. Serve the sangria over ice.

Notes To make simple syrup, combine equal amounts of sugar and water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil; simmer, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat and let cool completely. The simple syrup can be refrigerated in a glass jar for up to 1 month.

Serve and enjoy! Chin, Chin!

Until then, keep sharing the pretty,

My Not-So-Serious Summer Reading List

Hi Dolls! Summer is in full swing. This is the time of year I try (try being the operative word) to catch up on my reading. Like many, I make my selections from the New York Times Best Seller List – a mix of fiction and non-fiction. But not this year. This summer, I plan on doing something different and not at all cerebral; but it will be fun. Plus, several Dolls know that I am currently pursing my MBA. Classes ended on the 13th, so I am up to “here” in serious reading.

I love purchasing books on fashion, entertaining and etiquette. Some are coffee table books, others find their home on a bookshelf. Almost all never get read. Starting this weekend, these babies will no longer be orphans. I plan on getting through at least 10. Yep, I have that many  – actually more. As I peruse the pages, I plan on jotting down éléments d’intérêt. Some for fun, some to try.

Peep a few selections from my not-so-serious summer reading list below:

All in Good Taste | Kate Spade

You Are Cordially Invited to Champagne Sunday!

Hey Dolls! Happy Sunday! I don’t know about “your neck of the woods,” but it is unseasonably warm on the East Coast. High 60’s yesterday and we are expecting the same today. I’m loving it; but know that it won’t last. Nevertheless, my mind drifted to a summer cocktail. Something befitting the warm-ish weather. Peep the mixology below for the Cucumber-Mint Sparkler.

img_6191

Ingredients

  • 1-inch piece of seedless cucumber, finely chopped
  • ½ ounce fresh lime juice (that’s the juice from about half a lime)
  • 1½ ounces vodka
  • 2 teaspoons mint simple syrup (recipe below)
  • 3 ounces Prosecco or champagne
For the Mint Simple Syrup:
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup fresh mint leaves
For Garnish:
  • 3-4 slices cucumber
  • 1 sprig fresh mint

The Mixology. First, you’ll need to make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan, bring the sugar, water and mint leaves to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, swirling the saucepan occasionally, until the sugar dissolves, 1-2 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool completely before using.

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the chopped cucumber with the lime juice. Add the vodka, simple syrup and a few ice cubes, and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty. Strain into a glass filled with ice (I like crushed ice for this), and top with Prosecco. Garnish with the cucumber slice, mint prig and enjoy! Salut!

Girl Boss Life Planners for 2017

Hey Dolls! Happy New Year! I was so looking forward to 2017. Although 2016 was full of highs, there were definitely lows. Think the loss of David Bowie, Prince, Muhammad Ali, and over very own Princess Leia. But with the new year, brings new beginnings. An opportunity to set new goals, realize dreams, and practice purposeful planning for the year, or years, ahead.

I tend to use technology to plan and schedule. My Outlook calendar is a staple, as well as Wanderlist for my to-dos. But I really enjoy a fab life planner for penning more serious goals and ideas. At heart, I am a pen and paper girl. I love writing on good quality paper, with a beautiful pen. My go-to, and has been for years, is the Louis Vuitton Monogram Large Ring Agenda. This agenda is more of a daily planning and scheduling tool, and can be used for note taking in meetings. If you run out of inserts, and don’t want to repurchase the LV inserts, Filofax Diary Refills are compatible with the various agenda sizes.

The Passion Planner is highly recommended by one of my favorite Dolls, Inspired Brand Consulting Founder + Principal, the brilliant Ryane L. This purposeful planning tool assists in clearly define personal goals and dreams by putting them at the forefront of your attention. The Passion Planner helps break down long and short terms goals into more actionable steps, giving them a place to incorporate these steps into your daily life. Think of the Passion Planner as a compass to guide your daily decisions.
